So
that you enjoy and learn a lot from your stay at Donija Nkhoma, and in
respect of the Tumbuka culture, we would like to make the following
suggestions:
In
Tumbuka culture it is customary to say Odi Odi before entering anyone’s
house. If you wish to learn any Chitumbuka greetings, your guide will be
more than happy to teach you.
All
income generated from the Donija Nkhoma Community Tourism project stays
within the village, we would all like to thank you for your support.
If
you would like to help local communities why not buy some Luwawa Peanut
Butter, made by a craft co-operative, purchase some locally made pots or
donate money to the Luwawa Trust.
The Luwawa Trust aims to assist local
communities adjacent to the South Viphya and Perekezi Forest Reserve in
collaborative management and benefit sharing from this protected area.
If
you are a woman you may feel more comfortable wearing a long skirt and
dressing modestly in the village. If you do not wish to cycle or walk in
a skirt you can always pop one in your bag and change when you arrive.
Above all please relax and enjoy this unique opportunity to experience
Malawian culture and hospitality. If you have any questions please feel
free to ask.
The
lodge is currently working in a partnership with some of the members of
surrounding villages some of the enterprise schemes that we are
involved in include activities such as soap production using Aloe Vera,
which is produced and grown locally, as well as peanut butter, bird
baths, flower pots to name but a few......It all helps to provide and
sustain for a better economic future..... |
